The objective of the student undergraduate advising information is to give a reference for ocean engineering faculty, staff, and students. Keeping information of this type current is very difficult since university, college, department and program rules, regulations, and guidelines are always subject to change. Therefore, all faculty, staff, and students must be alert to these possible changes and inquire with applicable administrative offices, current Student Rules and the Undergraduate Catalog.
Each semester, students must first meet with an advisor in order to have their record cleared for registration. This is to help students plan thier course through the curriculum effectively. These new procedures beginning Fall 2009 are explained in detail in the Pre-Registration Briefing Notes [PPT, PDF].
The course requirements to obtain the Bachelor of Science in Ocean Engineering are specified in the undergraduate student catalog. The following PDF files contain a list of required courses with a flow chart detailing pre- and corequisites and timing for courses offered once-per-year. You should use these tools as a guide for selecting courses each semester:
The Undergraduate Academic Advisor is Prof. Scott Socolofsky. His office is in CE/TTI 801. You should contact him for questions about entering the Ocean Engineering Program and about student records questions, including removing blocks from your registration, transferring into Ocean Engineering, Q-Drop, and other related items. Each student is also assigned an Ocean Engineering Faculty member as their undergraduate advisor--you should contact them with questions related to course selection, pre-requisites, graduation requirements, and general professional questions.
The Advising Guide (PDF) gives additional information for the undergraduate program and is updated regularly.
