Undergraduate Admissions

Freshmen

Admission to the Ocean Engineering Program starts with admission to Texas A&M University. Applications can be done On-line, and detailed instructions are provided by the Texas A&M Admissions Office. As a Freshman, you should enroll in the Look College of Engineering, and you should also declare your major in Ocean Engineering.

The Office of Admissions has many helpful links related to admission to Texas A&M University, and the Look College of Engineering also has important information for incoming freshmen. Financial aid questions are addressed by the Department of Student Financial Aid.

There are important due dates to keep in mind that change each year. Consult the Office of Admissions for up-to-date information and guidelines.

Transfer Students

Students who wish to transfer to the Ocean Engineering Program at Texas A&M University from another school should apply On-line for admission to Texas A&M University following the links listed above for freshmen. The main difference for transfer students is that freshmen are admitted by the University and transfer students are evaluated at the department level by the undergraduate advisor before being admitted by the University. The standards stated in the current undergraduate catalog are the standards for admission to the Ocean Engineering Program.

The general guidelines for consideration are that students are pursuing courses toward an engineering degree (this generally includes Engineering Math, Physics, and Chemistry) and that they meet the standards for acceptance to Texas A&M University.

Change of Curriculum

If you are already a student in another major at Texas A&M University on the College Station or Galveston campus, then you will would need to change your curriculum to Ocean Engineering in order to enter the program. In order to be allowed to change your curriculum to ocean engineering, you must be accepted into the Ocean Engineering Program by the undergraduate advisor and not be subject to any ongoing academic sanctions in your originating department. Consideration for acceptance into the Ocean Engineering Program is made on an on-going basis, and is initiated by the student by completing the Application for Change of Curriculum to Ocean Engineering.

The general guidelines for consideration are that the student have completed two academic semesters at Texas A&M University and meet the minimum academic standards of an overall GPA of 2.75 and a cumulative GPA in any courses taken in the Engineering Common Body of Knowledge of 2.75 (for this later calculation, only the most recent grade in any course that was repeated will be considered in the evaluation).
